Relative to cars, trucks and SUV's, motor scooters are an environmentally-friendly means of transportation that help alleviate city congestion. Toronto's City Council was swayed by arguments that motorized two-wheelers are easier on the environment and help reduce gridlock. As a result, in the city of Toronto, all motorcycles and scooters can park in metered spots on the street for free!
Furthermore, the city is considering not only letting scooters park on sidewalks but creating special areas for them to park as well, changes that could leave Toronto looking more like a European city.
This is just the beginning of a country-wide movement to recognize scooters and other 2-wheeled vehicles as a positive alternative mode of transportation. Less fuel consumption and fewer emissions are just a few examples of how these vehicles help to reduce the negative impact on the environment.
Make a difference in your community, and encourage your local city council to make Canada a scooter-friendly country!!
